MOVING TO DISNEY WORLD?
" Dreams come true "
| From my latest trip to WDW - 2015 |
You guys, I know, I have literally never talked about all of this (and I've been super absent for the past months) but I applied to work at Disney World all the way in December. It took around four months for my interview to be scheduled, and I found out just 24 hours after my interview that I got accepted! So what that means is: I'll be moving to Orlando in October.
But let's start from the beginning.
You probably don't know, but when I first went there, I was ten years old, none of my family really spoke English and we were walking around with massive headphones all day that translated everything. We looked absolutely ridiculous. Still, it was probably one of the best times of my life.
Disney World is made up of four parks, one of which is Epcot. Epcot again is divided into two parts, Future World and the World Showcase. The World Showcase has different Pavilions from around the world where people from that actual country go to work and represent their culture.
Of course, we didn't know that when we first came there, but we still went to the German Pavilion and looked at all the merch they were selling there. One of the Cast Members approached us and started talking German to us! It just made our experience so much better because it felt like we were at home again and we finally had someone we understood! She told us about the Cultural Representative Program, where people go to Disney and work there for exactly one year. At that point little me knew that she wanted to do that at some point in her life!
The year trip to Disney was actually supposed to be my Gap Year, but because I only turned 18 in September and you can't apply until you're 18, I went to New Zealand. And don't get me wrong, I'm loving it here, but I know not applying and passing the chance of still doing the program would be something I regretted my whole life. So, in December, I applied for the program, not really sure if applications were open, not really thinking it would all work out. (The Website is confusing you guys).
It took probably less than a month for them to invite me to an interview. Unfortunately, I couldn't attend that interview because it was in Germany and I didn't want to have to fly back home. So I emailed them to ask for a Skype Interview. In true Disney Fashion, it took them weeks to answer, and four (!) months until I finally got to do a Skype Interview.
My Interview was great, even though I was super anxious. My interviewer and I chatted a lot and she laughed about all of my jokes which I felt like was a plus. At the end, she told me she would be making decisions fairly quickly and that it would take at the most two weeks.
Of course, I checked my email about every hour, but wasn't actually expecting anything to arrive in the next few days. During this whole process, I tried to not get my hopes up too much, because I knew I would be devastated if it didn't work out.
The next morning I woke up at 6 in the morning and had a look at my phone. And there it was! My job offer! I was sleeping in a 6 bed dorm room so I tried my best to not freak out and sent the news to everyone as quickly as possible!
Everyone was super happy for me, but my parents are very sad that I'll be leaving for another year.
So yes, the very long, very exciting story short: My start date is the 7th of October. I haven't booked any flights yet or basically done anything (I have paid the participation fee) but I will be on top of that very soon!
Thank you so much if you read through all this, and if you did, enjoy this cringy picture of my as a reward.
Have a very magical day!
