Going Abroad For A Year?

" So much of who we are is where have we been "
- Wiliam Langewiesche

So, I've had this idea in my mind for the longest time: After I finish school I want to live and work in another country for a year. I finished school six weeks ago and at that time I only knew one thing: I want to go away. Where? I didn't know. When? After my 18th birthday, of course. For how long? Ah, well, I'll see. That was basically what was going on in my head all the time. I had looked at tons of countries that offer the Working Holiday Visa, and just couldn't decide. Australia? Sounds nice, but so many snakes. Japan? Nope, not actually up to learning a completely different language. Canada? Does sound nice, but I've been in Florida before and don't want to keep going to the same one corner of the world. New Zealand? Well, the thing about New Zealand is, it's actually basically the other end of the world from where I live. Like, if I were the put a I'm going to New Zealand!
hole in the ground I would get out in New Zealand. So, as you might've guessed already:

Now comes the hard part for me. I'm not eighteen yet, so I cannot apply for the Working Holiday Visa. And without a Visa I have no way of finding a job from here. My birthday is the 14th of September, and I booked a flight to Auckland on the 14th of October. So I have exactly one month to get all my stuff done. I need a Visa, accommodations, CVs and so much more. As of right now, there is not a lot to prepare for me, which does suck. I'm in the midst of creating Bucket and Packing Lists and enjoying the anticipation. I'm actually so excited to be going to New Zealand!

But now to the fun part: The flight. On the 12th of October I will be flying from Hannover Airport to Heathrow. I will spend two days in London, because I cannot pass up an opportunity to see my favourite city in the world! And from there I'll be flying to Kuala Lumpur. Unfortunately I won't be able to get another glimpse at the city, because I only have 5 hours in Kuala Lumpur Airport. Then another ten hours will bring me to my destination: Auckland Airport.

And this is basically all I have planned right now. I have some dream places I want to work at, but, as I've said earlier, I cannot apply for anything without a Visa.

On here I will keep you updated about my organisation plans, and the troubles I will - most definitely - face. Also, I'm trying to organise this all by myself, I have no organisation helping me, so wish me luck.

Also, If you live in New Zealand, or have visited it, do leave me some tips and some destinations in the comments. Thank you so much!

Your friendly world traveler,

Lara
